iPod Touch: Safari won’t work - keeps showing refresh sign and won’t go further

I have to say I like my iPod Touch (version 2) and it’s great for reading my email and browsing the internet from the sofa.. however I had to re-setup my email on the device and suddenly Safari stopped working for any website - it just wouldn’t connect.  So I tried the other apps using my local wi-fi connection (weather and email) and both worked just fine.

After a lot of mucking about I found out how to solve the issue (for me at least) - Before progressing I have to add that this is at your own risk, it shouldn’t break anything (and it also fixed a friends issue) but Code Wizards isn’t responsible if anything happens (unless it’s good stuff!):

  • Look at the application menu and find “settings”
  • Click the button marked “General”
  • Find “Reset” (it’s right at the bottom of the page”
  • Press “Reset All Settings” (came up twice on mine so I clicked it both times)
  • The device now reboots and restarts

Hey presto!  It lost my wi-fi connection but once I re-established that email still works and safari springs back into life (and all the other apps are still on the application menu)
NOTE: quick update - although this rebooted ok for me other people have said that they had to hold down the power button and the application menu (aka the “menu button”) and it restarted

Now Apple I’m sure you can do better - that’s seriously not good… however it works and i’m back to loving my iPod Touch :)
